Bible Study

Overview

The Bible Study Program is a structured program consisting of weekly meetings of small groups for approximately 8 to 10 weeks per session. During these sessions parishioners are invited to discover more about the Bible. The Bible Study Program Leader is responsible for setting up the program and facilitating the evening sessions.

Mandatory Activities/Responsibilities

  • Selects the subject matter to be discussed
  • Arranges with the parish to purchase any materials that are required
  • Arranges for Advertising of the program through the parish
  • Reviews the subject matter in order to be able to facilitate discussion
  • Encourages and motivates participants in the discussion

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • An ability to work with small groups
  • An ability to listen and facilitate discussion
  • An ability to organize and manage the program
  • An ability to draw out differences of opinion and perspective about the subject matter
  • An ability to delegate the responsibility for leading sections of the program to other participants
  • An ability to stick to a time schedule
  • Freedom to be present on the evenings the program is running

Personal Traits and Qualities

  • Needs to be a member in good standing within the Church
  • Needs to be a member of the parish
  • Needs to be collaborative and have good interpersonal skills
  • Needs to have leadership abilities, patience, sense of humour
  • Interest and willingness to further one's knowledge of scripture

Orientation and Training

  • Participation in previous bible study programs
  • a willingness to participate, when possible, in programs to further their knowledge of scripture

Participant Group

  • Those persons who sign up to participate in the Bible Study program

Support, Supervision and Evaluation

  • The Parish Pastoral Staff is the first level of support, supervision and evaluation
  • Supervision will be conducted on a periodic basis
  • Evaluation will take place at the end of each two year term

Length of Ministry Appointment

  • Two year term with opportunity to renew

Screening Measures

  • This ministry is assessed as a low risk ministry
  • Completion of the Volunteer Information Form is required
  • Orientation to the Position is also required
  • The Leader must also complete the Ministry Covenant Form
